  • The Groove Challenge - September 2014 - Hosted By Kimmyann

A Challenge from Kimmyann featured in the September 2014 Special Edition of The Groove!

So everyone knows Kimmyann (that's me!) loves a good challenge and coming up with challenges is fun, too. I am constantly thinking of what could be a fun challenge.

Here is My First Groove Challenge:

SHAPES!! I want you to use SBM and make your own shape(S). It is really easy!!

    - Open Scrapbook MAX! to a new scrapbook. (I named mine Shapes.) Leave the Background white.

    - Now choose a Paper Scrap and color change it to solid black (HINT: bring in the paper as a Photo which will allow you to use the eraser on it in the next steps).

    - Choose any shape from SBM. Bring it in as a Photo, place it on the white background stretch it to the size you want.

    - Now you can customize the shape you just brought by applying OTHER SHAPES shapes to make whatever you want OR use the black tile and the eraser to block out and/or erase parts of the black tile to make your desired shape.

    - Once you’re happy with it, Click on Page >Save As Image and send it to a file for your Shapes folder ( Settings should be Custom – 100 – 4×4)

    - Click OK.

    - Now make a page using your shape!! Remember SBM2 you can even invert your shape, so you get 2 shapes for the time of 1.

(Read the September 2014 issue of The Groove to see a sample page)

Have questions? Kimmyann will be popping in on the challenge to help!

AND - keep your eye on this thread for a PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENT (a random winner will receive a prize from Scrapbook MAX! just for getting involved! More details on the way...)

Thanks for posting your great sample page here!

(Love this page! When I was in grade four, my ambition was to be a Marine Biologist. Could those be the reconstructed jaws of a 'megaladon'?)

Great challenge - join in everyone: 'get in shape(s)'!

Ok i tried the steps but for some reason I don't get the right result
Here's the steps that got me confused for some reason sorry I still feel like a newbie ones again ^_^

              - Click OK.

I don't know if I get it right when saying bring it in as a photo... hmmm should I use a photo instead of scraps? when i tried using the photo it did allow me to do erasing stuff but ones I tried the scraps the eraser part was grayed out. I don't know what to do anymore because when I applied the one i save, it came out so small and it doesn't look like a shape at all. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

Kimmyann is probably the best one to help with this, but I can give you my method Liwayway:

                  To create the black tile:

When you add Object> Paper scrap to a page, you're right - you can't use the eraser. So, one option is to add your paper scrap as a Photo. The way you do this is choose Object > Photo, and on the Select Photo box that appears, click on the Browse button (the icon in the top right hand of the Select Photo screen that looks like a folder with a green arrow on it) and navigate it back until you see the Paper Scraps folder. Pick a black paper scrap from that folder and now it will be added as a 'photo' which you can erase.

The other thing you could do is add a Photo to your page (any picture), then go the Advanced tab on the Photo Properties box, choose Adjust color, and slide the bars all the way to the left to black out the image. (as long as Kimmyann agrees with this way, of course- but I think she will. I think the point is to get a black tile on your page that you can use to black out parts of the new shape you are designing).

For the shape (adding the shape as a Photo):

Again, you could choose Object > Photo, and on the Select Photo box use the browse button to navigate to your Shapes folder. Now when you add the Shape to you page, you can use the eraser on it.

Hope that helps - and I'm sure Kimmyann we'll offer her method and tips when she is able (hope I haven't made things confusing for you.)

Good luck! (and nice page, fonnzy - love the lace dress!)

Liwayway I am sorry your having troubles, but with determination we will get through this and learn a new tool use for the SBM program.

Here is a Link, from the Awesome Donna Thomas on how to make shapes using SBM. Maybe by watching and walking through the process will help.

Once you play with this stuff it will get easier, I promise.... Its a challenge so we can learn new things

I even do this with elements so they look just right

Let me know if this Helped????

Oh boy........total confusion.....welcome to my world Liwayway!!
A silly silly question, but what is it I am trying to do?
I have watched the Utube clip and can't get past the first hurdle of saving the page in a .png
I can't bring the paper scrap in as a photo as I can't find them going through the 'objects-photo route........
I have been at it hours and still have a white area in front of me!!!!
I don't think you can make your instructions any simpler, I think it is my computer skills that are failing me!!
Just keep sending those 'you can do it' vibes.......
                            Hugs x x x x
