  • Converting to 8.5 x 11?

    Hi guys,

I posted this question in the discussion forum but it kind of got lost! I thought I'd try it here instead. I've been playing around trying to do an 8.5 x 11 with square templates - but it stretches the paper!

    Here's my former question:

    Converting to 8.5 x 11?
I've been visiting my local scrapbooking store and noticing a return to the 8.5x11 format! There are now more albums for that size and lots of books written by some of the scrapbooking gurus that use 8.5x11 layouts! I've been a "square" for so many years I have a question - since most (all?) of our templates are designed for 12x12 how do we convert them to 8.5x11? Or is it possible?

Any help will be so appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Double click on the background & go to I think its is Sizes Tab. Scroll down & they do have different sizes you can use.. I think they have 3 different ones for
    8.5 x 11... I hope this helps you! :-)

It works for me. I use the 8.5 x 11 size a lot.. Love It! :-)

      Thanks!

Thanks so much, Binkey! I'll try it - I did try it once but I thought the background paper looked stretched. Will work on it some more!

I just noticed this thread, and I thought I would put in my input! I design almost exclusively 8.5 x 11 (for now anyway) and I know your dilema. My suggestion to you is NOT to put in your background papers as a background. Drag and drop it as a photo or embellisment. Then when you see your square paper on your rectangle background, you can manipulate it several ways to get it to fit your page. If it's stripes, the easiest way is to take off the "keep aspect" and stretch it from the bottom of the stripes. You don't distort it this way. If it's a pattern, just crop it as close as you can to the rectangle shape of the page, that way when you resize it, it doesn't distort the image. You do lose a little from when you crop it, but it doens' DISTORT it.

I hope this helps...if you have any other questions about it, please ask!

          Thank U so much!

Thanks so much, Kristy. I've been wanting to try 8.5 x 11 and will follow your suggestions - they make lots of sense.! I can't wait for my computer to be hooked up and online again! In the meantime, I've been borrowing one when I can - moving is such a pain!

I do ALL of my pages 8 1/2 x 11 except it select the 11 x 8 1/2 size because that is the landscape view. It's great!

The funny part is.....I started trying 8x8 but hated having to trim off the extra. Still have to trim edges because I can not get borderless. It must be something with the printer. Printer says I have borderless and SBM says it's borderless but I still have a border! Even with the border, I do prefer the 11 x 8 1/2 (landscape) size.

              8.5 X 11

I just downloaded the software today, so I haven't done much experimenting yet. However, if you open a 8x8 template, you can convert it to 8.5x11 very easily.

Go to your top menu to Page, then Settings, then Size. Change it to 8.5x11 and click on OK. The software will ask if you want to resize the elements on the page for 8.5X11. Say yes and all the elements are still in proportion. You have to do this for each page in the template. I thought it looked good.

                Rosalie is Correct

I have been doing all my pages that way. After you select YES to resize, you may need to make a few minor adjustments, but it's easy. Occasionally you will find something that is "locked" so you will need to unlock so you can move elements around.

I just now noticed your question. Did you get an answer to it? If not, how do you mean it is still 8x8 after you change the size to 8.5x11. If all the embellishments are still the same size but the paper is 8.5x11, you clicked on No instead of Yes for the software to resize items.

Ok I have another question, When I do a 11x8 1/2 and go to print it. it prints like a 8 1/2x11 and makes it smaller, Does anyone have any idea why that happens? I have to take the picture into another program just to print it out. and it only does it on that size. I don't have a 12x12 printer so I can't print them out. But maybe Santa is watching and he'll get me one!
