  • help-black background on some file icons

This is an awesome group and so helpful when there's a problem. This time I need to know how to get rid or prevent the black bk when I change the icon on a file. This only happens on some icons. In one case, I had a square appear behind the icon. Couldn't do it again if I had to but it's there. The square I can live with, but if I could prevent the black bk. I open the folder, choose the icon that will replace the folder icon, edit it with renaming it _sbmax in a jpg format. I've only got Paint to work in. The black only happens sometimes as some have a white bk. Any help someone can provide would be so appreciated. PS- is there away to get rid of the third t in shattuck that I mistyped originally? Thanks again - you're a great group

Hi Pshatttuck... What is happening is that when you save the image as a jpg, you loose the transparancy in the background and the program has to fill in the blank with a black background. If you have an image editor, you can make the background whatever color you like, then save it.

Maybe Lee or someone else can be more helpful.

I'm not sure I understand your question but Microsoft Paint (included with Windows) is not a very smart program. In fact, it probably qualifies as a mental midget. If you're trying to save an image with a transparent background, you'll need to buy something like Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Is the Icon in Gif format ? There are many Free programs that will make the background transparent in a Gif...There is a Wonderful Program from Microsoft called Digital Image, You can download the program and use it for 60 days, after the 60 Days the program will work but won't have all the extras, but will be able to do amazing things with your picts here is the link, read the information provided on the page I think you will be very pleased with it

download, software, update, Microsoft, product, computer, PC, Windows, Office, server, MSN, Live, game, Xbox, security, driver, install, trial, preview, demo, popular

Also Corel Paint Shop Pro X ( PSPX) is a very affordable program, if PS Elements isn't in your budget....Hope this helps you

            Free Image Editor GIMP

You can download the Gimp and it's free, not just a trial. It does most things the expensive programs do.

            Download at:http://www.gimp.org/windows/

I can tell you how to remove the background in that program if need me too.

              The _sbmax.jpg file must be:

              100 x 100 pixels
              Solid color background
              must be jpg format

So if you have a transparent background and you coinvert to jpg it will probably fill with black.

Are you trying to make content packs? That would be the only reason I can think of to work with the )sbmax file.

If you click on the private messages bit underneath the Welcome where on the top right hand side it opens the control panel where you can edit your name. I started messing around when you asked this and found out by accident lol!
