Creating a DVD

I haven't found any threads on this forum about DVD so I will post the first one. I am having problems creating a DVD from a Scrapbook Max layout. I follow the instruction, use a CD-RW, burn the CD, and it ejects when finished. Then I tried to play it on a DVD player, and it rejected the disk. For the techies out there, I have a Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-324F drive. Do I need special disks for a DVD? Got any suggestions? I have no problem creating a slideshow for computer use.

I don't believe you can do a DVD in SBM. Only Photo CD or Video CD. The capabilities of your DVD player will determine what formats are compatible.

Yes that is right. I could only do CD. It didn't recognise DVD. Another suggestion Max!

Here's an excerpt:

"Video CD
The Video CD publishing option is similar to the Movie option, but instead of generating a single video file, it prepares and burns your movie as a video CD, or "VCD" for short. The resulting video CD can be played in any compatible DVD player.

To burn a VCD, choose File > Publish To > Video CD from the program menu, or click the Publish icon on the toolbar and choose Video CD from the dropdown list.

When the Publish to Video CD dialog appears, select the drive that you want to burn the CD on, and the options that you want for the video slideshow. For example, you can set the time to wait before moving from each page to the next by adjusting the Timer option.

One feature that is unique to Video CDs and Movies are the transition effects. You can choose to add transition effects to spruce up the transitions between pages in your scrapbook. For example, you can make the pages crossfade into each other, or let Scrapbook MAX! choose a variety of different transitions at random. You can even specify how long the page transitions should take, which determines the "speed" at which the transition effects will occur.

The "TV type" option determines which display format the video will conform to (NTSC or PAL). If you're not sure what option to choose, pick the one that most closely matches your geographic location, or just leave it at NTSC (the default).

When you're ready to generate the VCD, click OK.

Note: Converting a scrapbook into a movie involves a lot of advanced processing, which can take a while (especially on slower processors).

Once the movie is ready, you'll be asked to insert a blank CD, and then the burning will begin. When Scrapbook MAX! is done, you'll be asked if you want to burn another disc—if you do, just put another fresh disc in the drive and follow the instructions.

Once you've burned all the discs you want, try watching one in your DVD player. (You can also view VCDs on your computer if you have any movie software installed, such as Windows Media Player or PowerDVD.)

Note: Although most DVD players are able to play VCD discs, not all of them can. However, if your DVD player is relatively new, or if it was made in Asia where the VCD format has been very popular, the chances are very good that it will be able to play VCDs. Also, with some DVD players the type of CD-R can make a difference as well; you may need to experiment with a few different brands of CD media in order to find the one that works best for you.

Tip: If you own any burning software, it may support other video formats such as SVCD or DVD that allow higher quality playback than the VCD format. If you would like to try these other formats, use the Movie publishing option to create a video (.mpg) file that you can bring into your burning software."

Also note that some DVD players may not accept a CD-RW (re-writable). Try using a CD-R for best results.

Some older DVD players may not support Video CD.

O poo...techie stuff...or too hard for numpty's to understand. Am I right though, you can't burn to DVD?
Video CD is burnt on ordinary CD.
Please let me know or I'll try experimenting and something will explode.I managed to cause the power surge stopper thingy to explode the other night. I moved it and bang! Doesn't work now for some reason

Don't know if this will be a help or hindrance...I just bought Scrapbook Max last week but back in September I did write to someone here to aks how to get them onto DVD and this was the reply..

"Scrapbook MAX! does not support DVD video. However, if you are familiar with burning DVD movies through 3rd party software (Eg. Nero Vision Express 2), you could first publish your scrapbook to a movie file on your hard drive, and then burn to DVD."

Which I "think" more or less supports what Karin posted in the last paragraph about .mpg.

It's all a bit foreign to me!

Jazzieal helped me with this sometime back. Her message to me has been deleted since..She had some great suggestions for programs to use to convert to DVD format!!
