Ideas needed!

I want to make a scrapbook which is 12x12, my printer only takes A4 paper and I wonder if anyone has any ideas on how I can go about creating my own designs without having to buy 12x12 backgrounds. I did wonder about trying to make jigsaw pieces to fit together but don't know how to go about it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
