  • clueless!

I introduced myself a couple weeks back and mentioned how clueless I am. . .Now it's becoming incredibly clear that this was indeed an understatement!

As I mentioned, I would like to use this to create "notebook" pages for my kids school. Now, I know I want to create a template, and I get the gist of saving and all that (I'm not computer illiterate). But, where's my gray photo box????

Let me see if I can describe what I want, and maybe someone can help me get there?

History study, done in "units" (in my case units of time, but that's actually irrelevant). Each unit will have a minimum of 3 pages. The first two pages are "static"; the background and embellishments won't change however, the photos will.

I've got the 1st page designed, I think. It has all the background and embellishments, then the first "static" image is a world map, the 2nd "static" image is a timeline. In between these is supposed to be a regional map that would change with each unit. Clear as mud so far?

So I would save it as a template (exporting), and then next time I pull it up. . .

Am I supposed to have the regional map photo there? Isn't it supposed to be a grey box saying "double click here for photo"? Or is it all right, and I just put in the new photo, and save it as something else?

And then, that brings me to any of the following pages (after page 2). I need photo place savers. . .how do I get those? I want to leave them open so I can add photos as we do the unit, but I want to have the background done. . .does that make sense? I know the sizes all ready, or I like to think I do. . .

The easiest way to make one of those gray boxes is to insert a photo (any photo will do) and then right click with your mouse on that photo, you will get a little dropdown box with choices and there is one choice that reads "clear image", click on that choice and that removes the photo, but leaves the gray box where the foto use to be.

    Make sense??

I'm not sure I understand you correctly, but I think what you need to do is bring in the photos that do not change as embellishments, and the ones that change, that you want the grey box for, bring those in as photos. When you export the template, if you click "Remove the photos", then you will get the grey box for the ones that change, and the ones that always remaind the same will still be there.

Clear as mud? I thought so, I'm confused myself. But, I'm sure one of the gurus will be here shortly, and give you a better answer.

        Marion,

THANK YOU! That's exactly what I needed! And yes, it made perfect sense.

Thanks for your time and thought. I'm sure it was my description that caused you much confusion. You all make these as beautiful pieces of art and keepsakes, and I'm attempting to make educational keepsakes that can be written / drawn on / pictures added to. *GASP*, I know, the horrors.

I have to just say, some of my most favorite photos I've ever taken were when we lived in Harrogate. Even the "rainy" days had awesome pictures. (alot of double rainbows).

That's terribly sweet of you, but after seeing some of the work in the gallery, I think I'll just hide mine here at home! Not to mention, 98% of mine are meant to be finished AFTER printing.

I am working on a recipe card though. . .maybe I'll share that if I work up enough courage. (I'll make sure it's a good recipe at least!)

Glad I could help. Don't be afraid to post your stuff in the gallery. You never know, it may give someone else a great idea on how to us Scrapbook Max in different ways.

You should see my first template... I burned it at the stake for heresy, is was so bad. In fact, I'm thinking of doing the same with all my work. So please, post it. I'm really curious about the concept you're working on. I might even steal your idea for my work!!!

Er. . .no. I'm a Southern Belle (from the States). We are a military family so we had the opportunity to spend time in your country. My two youngest were born there.

We spent time on the Continent as well (directly afterwards), but for some reason, my pictures from that time weren't nearly as impressive. . .
