Does anyone have or know where I can find musical symbol embies? For my heritage album, I have a mandolin and want some musical symbols to go with it. I thought I would have trouble finding the mandolin. Rather, I'm having trouble finding the symbols instead. I had an ancestor that professionally played the mandolin. Thanks a bunch for your help.

Anyone free to download and use these elements . The only condition is that IF they are posted in whole or in part anywhere in a public Gallery Credit is given to Deanne Gowsmith /ScrapbookMax

Deanne, they are wonderful! Thank you. Yes, the mandolin is a beautiful sounding instrument. Its unfortunate that none of his descendents ever wanted to learn how to play it.
Back to correct typos. I don't know why I let them bother me.Last edited by Verleen; 04-07-2007, 09:52 PM.

What a shame..
My Dad was a musician.. not professional but he played in the Kensington & Norwood Band..and played in competitions most of his life.. I still have his trophies and medals. He was Champion of Australia and Champion of Champions one year.. He played a "wind" instrument called a Euphonium.. As kids we thought it was boring.. but I listen now to his recording and his music moves me to tears.. it has such "heart". But sadly I never inherited any musical talent whatsoever - the only thing I inherited is the "wind"

Deanne, how wonderful that you have recordings of him. We don't have any. My father-in-law was a professional musician (musician's union and all), but he never got recorded. He was only part-time though. He was always afraid to give up his day job. And none of his children had his talent or desire to learn. He also had a great voice and sang opera arias. We traveled in Europe with my in-laws and listened to him sing in the car as we rode along the autobahn and autostrada. Old memories. No one in the family has even preserved pictures and albums. That is why I want to do this heritage album digitally. So I can share it with so many others in the family. I want to get the stories recorded before they are lost.

Deanne, I had to look on the net to see what a euphonium looked like. I don't think I've ever see one or heard one played. I tried to find a site with some musical exerpts, but they wouldn't play for me. I'm having sound card issues.....Has your family still kept his instrument? I believe my sister-in-law still has my father-in-laws mandolins.

No we dont still have it.. I really dont know what ever happened to it.. I still do have his favourite Mouthpiece though.. I treasure that.He died 20 years ago
He stopped playing in his latter years .. he had emphysems from smoking and you need good lungs to play... It broke his heart that he couldnt anymore.
The sound is mellow and not as deep as Tuba .. real middle range tone
heres a pic of what it looks likeAttached Files

Verleen,
I went off with all good intentions to search my DB, found only one, took a nap and came back to find you have received some great images that I am unable to add to - at least my heart was in the right place.
I am brand new around here and becoming somewhat amazed at the level of help and willing support shown within the community. To think that Deanne would design a few items for you - well all I can say is - amazing!!!
As a SBM citizen and an ex-Royal Australian Navy Musician (Trumpet) I wish you the very best for your 'musical' heritage project and, my thanks for providing yet another opportunity for this newbie to witness what a fantastic community I have joined.
Incidentally (you may already be aware), the Mandolin is a particularly difficult instrument to 'master' and although there are many folk musicians who play the 'Manny' very well, it takes years and dedication to fully develop the 'sweetness' in tonal sound that this stringed instrument is capable of producing. Oops! I rave on a bit at times, well most times actually - sorry.
Best regards,

This musical thread is wonderful, thank you for all the prezzies. My daughter is 16 and started playing the piano just before her 10th birthday. Her teacher says she is naturally gifted and is on the final exam she can take unless she wants to teach, which she doesn't. She won't play in front of anyone which is such a shame, no confidence whatever! He wants to gt her a couple of pupils so that she can earn some money but she won't. She could be even better but she hates practicing lol. I am so proud of her , the family have no idea how good she is because she won't play to themI have tried bribary the lot but nothing works.

Deanne - with respect, the Euphonium is a member of the Brass section of musical intruments and although, like a tuba, trumpet or trombone requires 'wind' to play, none of these are made of wood. I think that perhaps your inheritance may be more the 'Gleem of Gold' in your heart rather than 'wind'.
I recall the most technically stunning Euphonium solo I have ever heard - my Bandmaster (Salvation Army Band) in New South Wales, I was 15 at the time and he played 'The Flight of the Bumblebee' (arguably written for trumpet) - note perfect and I mean 'stunning'. What makes it so is the fact that notes produced on a trumpet are produced very 'sharlpy' (very little lead-in/lead-out to the individual note played) - not so with the Euphonium - more 'mellow' than 'sharp'. Btw - a brass players mouthpiece becomes a part of the individual - it is NOT where the human stops and the instrument begins, it IS a very real part of each and although made of metal, it literally, somehow, inexplicably 'GROWS', 'MELDS', (bio-metally) becomes part metal and part human - keep it and cherish it - it contains within its molecular structure a 'little bit of your dad'. Please forgive me if I have overstepped the mark speaking of your father this way - I do so with the greatest respect Deanne - I'm a fairly deep person and sometimes don't know where to draw the line for others. As you have gifted Verleen, here is a little 'little' gift for you entitled - 'O My Beloved Father' by Steve Mead. (can't attach music files???)
Verleen - if you are able to overcome your sound card issues (best of luck with that) search for that Euphonium sound just to be able to say you have heard it - it will leave a little of itself somewhere within you. Here is a link to Steven Meads (World reknowned Euphonium Virtuoso) site - Euphonium Net http://www.euphonium.net/ and from there, go to CD's and you can stream or download a few MP3 quality clips just to sample the sound.
Sorry to 'hijak' your post but as I said earlier, I get carried away.
Again, the very best with your exciting project Verleen - are you considering adding any Mandolin music to your digialbum?
Best regards,
