Instructions on how to download (and make!) templates

One of the best things about Scrapbook MAX!, is that you can easily add new layout templates to the software whenever you want. That means it is totally expandable, so you're never left looking at the same stuff all the time. Here are instructions about downloading new layouts into your software, as well as instructions on creating and sharing layouts with others!

Note: The instructions below assume that you are using Scrapbook MAX! version 1.0.1.0 or later. To find out which version you have, select Help > About Scrapbook MAX! from the menu bar in the software. If it says "Version 1.0.0.0" you need to update the software. To update the software automatically, select Help > Check for Update... from the menu bar.

    Downloading Template Files

Select the topic that you want to download a template from. Now click on the link to the template file (it ends in .smt) in the "Attached Files" section. When your Web browser asks you what you want to do with the file, click the "Open" button (Internet Explorer or Opera browsers) or choose "Open with: Scrapbook MAX!" and click OK (Firefox browser). Once the file has downloaded you should see a message that tells you that the template has been successfully installed. It will now be available the next time that you create a new project or page.

    Creating Template Files

The first step is to actually create a great looking layout using the Scrapbook MAX! software. Simply create and edit a scrapbook layout as you normally would. When it is ready to go, select File > Export Template... from the menu bar. Give your template a unique and descriptive name and then click OK. If all went well, you will recieve a message that tells you so. Your template file will now be located in the folder "My Documents\Scrapbook MAX!\Templates" on your computer.

In order to make the smallest templates possible, make sure that the "Optimize embellishment sizes" box is checked.

    Posting Template Files

It is important to note that you should only post templates that you have created yourself, with embellishments you have made yourself (or you have permission from the copyright holder to use them in your template). Uploading files that are not yours to share is a big no-no.

To post a template file, make sure that you are logged into the Scrapbook MAX! community forums and are in the Templates & Layouts section. Then click the "New Thread" button. This will take you to the Post New Thread page.

In the "Title:" field, enter the name of your template (i.e. "Summer Memories").

In the "Message:" field, type in a description of your template. If the template has a personal story behind it, feel free to share that too. You can also discuss what techniques, fonts and images you used to create the template if you like.

As well, we would like you to include the following instructions in the "Message:" field below your template description:

To use this template, click on the link in the "Attached Files" section below (the .smt files). When your Web browser asks you what you want to do with the file, click the "Open" button (Internet Explorer or Opera browsers) or choose "Open with: Scrapbook MAX!" and click OK (Firefox browser). Once the file has downloaded, you should see a message that tells you that the template has been successfully installed. It will now be available the next time that you create a new project or page.
The next step is to actually attach your template and a screenshot to your post. To do this, scroll down to the "Additional Options" section on the new post page. You will see a button that says "Manage Attachments". Click that button. You should see a new window pop-up that says "Manage Attachments" at the top. Now click the "Browse..." button and find the template on your computer. It should be located in "...\My Documents\Scrapbook MAX!\Templates". It will have the name of your template with a ".smt" at the end. So if your template is called "Summer Memories" the file should be called "Summer Memories.smt". Once you have selected the file, click "Open" to go back to the "Manage Attachments" window. Now click the "Upload" button that is beside the "Browse..." button. Once your file is uploaded properly you should see your template listed in the "Current Attachments" section.

As well as the template itself, it is good to attach a screenshot of the template so that people will have an idea of what your template looks like before they use it. Fortunately, when Scrapbook MAX! exports your template, it also exports a screenshot for you as well. The screenshot is in the same folder as your template and has the name: -screenshot.jpg. So, if your template was called "Summer Memories" the file should be called ""Summer Memories-screenshot.jpg". Use the instructions from the previous paragraph to upload this file as well. Once you have attached these two files, click the "Close this window" button to return to the "post New Thread" page.

Now that your template is ready to post, click the "Submit New Thread" button. Congratulations - your template is now available to the Scrapbook MAX! community.
Scrapbook MAX! 2.0 is here!. It's simply better digital scrapbooking software!
